Growing, Learning, Changing, and Accomplishing Graduating High School
First, I want to thank the teachers, staff, Behavioral Health team, and everyone who came here today to support us. Most of all, I want to thank Dr. Dike and Mrs. Rios.
Today is a day I never thought would come. My path to graduation has not been easy. There were times when I made mistakes, times when I felt lost, and times when I doubted myself. If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be standing here giving a graduation speech, I would not have believed them.
But today proves that I have grown, I have learned, and I can change.
Graduating in juvenile hall is not how I imagined my high school graduation experience would be. It is not where I planned on spending most of the teenage years. But even while being incarcerated, I was given a chance to continue my education, a chance to reflect on my choices, and a chance to work toward something better.
Graduation today does not erase my past. It does not mean my struggles never happened. But it does mean that I did not let my past stop me from moving forward. I chose to keep learning. I chose to keep trying. And today, we are seeing the result of that effort.
This diploma represents more than completing school. It represents perseverance, growth, and the decision to keep going even when things felt difficult. It represents a second chance and the belief that our mistakes do not have to define the rest of our lives.
To Thomas, I want to say that we should be proud of what have accomplished. We have different stories, but today we share the same achievement. We did not give up. We kept moving forwards, and we earned this moment.
As we leave here and begin the next chapter of our lives, we will face new challenges. But I hope we remember the lessons we have learned and continue striving to become better versions of ourselves. Our future is not determined by where we have been, but by the choices we make from this point on.
Thank you, and congratulations to the Class of 2026.
